Garin Apple Festival. Come join in once again at a delightful barn dance at Garin Regional Park in Hayward. You provide the feet, and we provide the music, with Harry Liedstrand on Fiddle, John Blasquez on fiddle & guitar, Daren Santos on bodhran & mandolin. And there's lots of traditional games for kids, apple tasting, blacksmithing and craft demonstrations, plus history and current information about the park. CSOTFA Fiddle Workshop — District 9 of the California Old-Time Fiddle's Association recently launched a scholarship program which funds a free fiddle workshop at each monthly meeting and jam session in Castro Valley.

CSOTFA is commissioning these workshops to encourage and foster the preservation of old-time fiddling. The workshops are open to youth age 18 and under — and they're are FREE to CSOTFA members and to first time participants. If you're not a member, but want to join us for on going workshops, just join CSOTFA for just $14 a year!

Megan Lynch is this month's instructor.

To date the workshop instructors have been Megan Lynch, four time Champion at the National Old-Time Fiddle Contest, and John Blasquez who placed in the top ten on four occasions at the National Old-Time Fiddle Contest.

Be a part of the living tradition of American fiddle music!

Join us the 4th Sunday of each month from 1:30 to 5pm (except December). There's a potluck lunch at 2:00 pm, followed by the fiddle workshop from 2:30 to 4:00 pm, and special "youth concert hour" starting at approximately 4:15pm.

Fiddlekids Camp. Fiddlekids is a wonderful music day-camp for kids ages 7 to 13. On this year's staff are fiddlers Bobbi Nikles (director), John Blasquez, Betsy Branch, and Laura Risk. Plus Evie Ladin teaching dance and art instructor Marcy Overway.

Fiddlekids became fully enrolled as of April. Any further enrollments are on a stand-by basis. If you're interested in camp next year, sign up by February to insure a spot.

Come hear the Fiddlekids perform on the last day of camp. The concert will last about an hour, and features fiddling and dance — and you'll get to see a display of the art the kids create at camp. It's amazing what these kids accomplish in a week!

St. Patrick's Day Celebration at the Stadium Pub, features live Celtic music with Harry Liedstrand playing fiddle, John Blasquez on guitar and fiddle, and Daren Santos on bodhran and mandolin.
Two performances! Weather permitting the afternoon show will be outside. It starts at 2 pm, and will include young Irish dancers. The evening show, starts at 7:30 pm and will be inside the newly expanded Stadium Pub.

26th Cloverdale Fiddle Contest
This is a really fun contest, featuring old-time American fiddle with contestants from the PeeWees (8 years and yonger) to the nationally acclaimed fiddlers who compete in the Progressive Division.
Hosted by the Cloverdale Historical Society.
CONGRATULATIONS: This years' winners include local fiddlers Andrew Fields and Sorcha Evenhouse, who took first and second place in the Junior Junior division. And little Pat Reilly, age six, who took fifth place in the PeeWee division, and received a trophy for being the youngest fiddler.

Chee-Yun performs the Mendolssohn Violin Concerto in E minor at the California Symphony's yearly open rehearsal. This is a working rehearsal, so you get to see the conductor, soloist, and orchestra in the act of perfecting their collaboration.

And there's an Instrument Petting Zoo in the lobby where kids can try out various instruments. It's great fun. And inexpensive! $8 per seat. Or $4 peer seat when you buy ten or more tickets.
