Here's the workshop philosophy in a nutshell
In addition to the love of practicing and playing music, there are a few essential motivators for musicians:
Hearing people play music (live, in person!)
Playing with other people.
Performing.
Meeting other musicians
Being musically creative.
These opportunities are abundant in both the Horizon workshop and Acoustic Instruments 101.
List of classes and workshops:
Acoustic Instruments 101 develops individual musicianship by teaching repertoire, memory skills, physical relaxation, emotional relaxation (poise and presence), improvisation, and the practical aspects of music theory. Also there's coaching in rehearsing, arranging and performing. It's a perfect class for people just beginning to play music with others, and it's an excellent course for those who haven't yet taken the plunge.
The Horizon Workshop focuses on bringing your existing musical knowledge to rehearsals and group performances. Think of it as a jam session with structure, direction, and helpful guidance ... plus an attentive, supportive audience! You'll get lots of pointers on arranging music, collaborating musically, fostering creativity, and sharing your sharing knowledge of music. In addition to group performances, members may perform solo occasionally in fact that's one of the ways we introduce material to the class.
Fiddling for Violinists This workshop provides a cordial introduction to the fiddle the festive folk cousin to the queen of the orchestra! This is a thorough, well-paced introduction, valuable even to those with years of fiddling experience.
Come join us for the social side of music!
